On this episode of Lighten Up podcast, I confront the thing I really need to lighten up about: the bad reviews of my book. For over a year I’ve been all pants-poopy about them and I recruited my friend Jenny Rapson, editor of ForEveryMom.com, to hold my hand as I read them for the first time.
Here’s us at Allume, not to be confused with the very first time we met, which was in a bathroom. But people don’t take selfies in bathrooms. At least they shouldn’t. I’m against it.
We also talk about bikinis, momkinis, and the -kini spectrum, how Jenny is being a light in her community, and then the most important thing we have in common, our love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The thing I love about talking with friends is the unexpected turns the conversation takes, and when smack in the middle of a Buffy conversation I randomly asked Jenny what she’s learning, she talked about a big one: racial justice. YES.
Books she’s reading:
The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
Books I’m reading:
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander
